Wawel Cathedral

Posted on July 5, 2009
Wawel Cathedral is possibly the most historic place of Poland. The style is, in large part, Gothic, dating from the reign of King Wladyslaw the short (1306-1333) and of Kazimierz the Great (1333-1370). Wawel Cathedral, Poland's national sanctuary, was the coronation of the monarch of Poland. It is probably the most interesting place in the country, together with the adjacent Royal Wawel Castle. Its walls, XIV century, house a wide variety of art objects, from Gothic to Renaissance to Baroque, the classicist, the modern. It is also the burial of a royal of all Poland, and many heroes, two poets, four saints and a bisheop of Krakow. Eighteen chapels, filled with artistic values, surround Wawel Cathedral. Sigismund Chapel, beautiful 'white pearl of the Renaissance', vis-s-vis the grave of Queen Jadwiga, is the best acquisition of Renaissance architecture and sculpture in Poland and the entire north of Europe. It also keeps the demands Baroque, with black marble in the chapel, Vasa.
Among the five bells hung in turn, will find the bell 'Zygmunt', one of the largest in Europe and that weighs 11 tons. It was cast at the beginning of the century 16 retail but it is interesting that he was' cast 'bronze cannons captured by Poland in the novels.

On the roof of Europe …

Posted on July 4, 2009

Imagine how hard you were to build this restaurant! Over 2300 meters on Peak Niesen in Switzerland. Restaurant Berghaus Niesen was recently rebuilt by the architects Aebi & Vincent, and the result is astounding.

You could go up there for fondue and raclette, but I believe that in the event that the food would be a mess, not even I have seen. The trip by funicular to the top and the view that you sit at your feet once arrived at the destination make you forget everything.
Funicular, adjacent restaurant and hotel are closed for now, but to enjoy the view of this, in full peace, there is always available (regardless of time) the longest number of steps in the world, ie 11,674 steps. If you find it too difficult or intimidating (because they are not used only by staff funicular), then you have to wait until May when it reopens all facilities.

In the heart of nature, the most modern design

Posted on July 4, 2009

I love to hide on holiday in places as remote, in full nature that cut my breath beauty. "Digging" through the internet I found this rare jewel, called Juvet Landskapshotell or hotel landscape ", is located in Gudbrandsjuvet, Norway, is situated in the heart of the forest on a ridge high above a river is very well equipped and has a modern design.

In connection with hotel ... farm near Burtigard in Gudbrand narrow, sheltered among  rocky area Norddal. How about design? A farm, a barn, plus ten separate hotel rooms isolated by foliage, each with at least one wall made entirely of glass, and none to "cede" to the other.

The concept used in this case is called geotourism, meaning "a harmonious marriage between nature and modern design. All the rooms, although radically different from the neighborhoods, are perfectly integrated in through large windows (as a wall). Guests are invited to stay for 5 days and will be assisted by local hosts that they prepare food, informs them about the area which was, and I join in excursions in the area. Total immersion.
